You’ve heard of gentle parenting, but is it really Christian or just a cultural fad? Don’t the apostles say “Children, obey your parents” and “all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant”? How does that align with gentle parenting? In this workshop theologian and seminary professor Dr. David Erickson will dive into the writings of the first-century church to explore what the apostles can teach Jesus’ followers about parenting. On questions of obedience, respect, nurture, and discipline the apostles wrote timeless principles that remain applicable today. The teachings of Jesus and the apostles upended the cultural norms in the Roman world and parenting was no exception. That’s still true as living out the Gospel of Jesus in our families continues to upend our cultural norms.

 MEET THE TEACHER

DR. DAVID ERICKSON
David longs to see God’s people recognize that how we live out our faith imparts theology to others. Nothing brings this into sharper focus than parenting as our daily lives constantly disciple those who know us most closely. David has previously served as a pastor, but since 2009 he has been equipping pastors, missionaries, and lay leaders as a professor of Systematic and Historical Theology at a Baptist seminary. He holds a Ph.D. in Theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, a Master of Divinity from BMA Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor of Arts in Bible from Central Baptist College.
